USC Trojans Get Verbal Commitment from Steven Mitchell – Fan's Reaction - Yahoo! Sports

Rated as the eighth best receiver nationally and also the eighth best prep player out of California, Steven Mitchell has given the University of Southern California Trojans a verbal commitment for the 2013 season.

Mitchell might arguably be the best wide-out to come out of the Southern California area this coming year. Mitchell was also recruited by several dozen other schools including Arizona, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and UCLA. Mitchell plays at Alemany High School in the Pac 5 Division in California, perhaps the toughest division in California if not the nation. Alemany is in Mission Hills which is the north end of the San Fernando Valley and is part of Los Angeles.

He is 5'11" and 170 pounds. Mitchell is athletic, quick and has excellent speed to go along with a very bright mind. He impressed the Trojan coaching staff at a recent USC Skills Camp, earned an offer and almost immediately accepted with the verbal commitment. He had originally stated he would wait until after the season was over but his father, Steven Mitchell Sr., confirmed the commitment (source - ESPN). Also, his high school coach stated, "It's a done deal."

Said Mitchell afterwards: "I've always wanted to go to USC - that has been my dream school since I was little. Whenever I thought about playing football in college, I always thought about myself playing at USC. This is such a big moment for me and I'm just really excited. Not many people get the opportunity to play for their dream school and for me, to have this chance, it's incredible." (Source - Scout.com)

Mitchell joins Eldridge Massington of West Mesquite, Texas, as wide receivers who have given the Trojans a verbal commitment for 2013. Mitchell will complement the bigger Massington who is 6'3" 205 pounds.

With only Robert Woods likely moving on at the end of this year, the whole receiving corps will still be intact and therefore competition will be abundant in 2013. Mitchell is the ninth player to give his verbal commitment to the USC Trojans for next year.

Despite NCAA penalties the school received two years ago, including 10 less scholarships per year, USC Trojans continue to build up an incredible group of talented football players.
