The 10 greatest LA Kings of all time, No. 6: Bob Miller - Los Angeles Times

Titanic trio

L.A.'s titanic trio of sports announcers -- Bob Miller, left, the late Chick Hearn and Vin Scully -- in 2000. (Los Angeles Times / June 13, 2012)

Continuing our countdown of the 10 greatest L.A. Kings of all time, as chosen by Times readers.

No. 6: Bob Miller (193 first-place votes, 6,620 points)

The legendary Kings announcer received the third-most first-place votes, but finished sixth because he was left off about half the ballots.

Miller just finished his 39th season as the voice of the Kings, the first 17 simulcast on TV and radio and the last 22 years as the exclusive television voice of the team. He was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2000.

Miller, Vin Scully and the late Chick Hearn -- the best play-by-play men in their respective sports -- all work or worked for L.A. teams, making the fans in Los Angeles very fortunate.

On a personal note, whenever I see hockey highlights on TV, whether it is from the Kings or some other team, the play-by-play voice in my head is Bob Miller, the greatest hockey announcer of all time.
